About Me
In A Few Words
Hello, I’m Soumya. The town that I belong to is a small area near the river Ganges called Hooghly. The place used to be an old Portuguese colony. We still have a Portuguese Church, close to my home, which is about 500 years old. There is also the Imambara which is also centuries old. I grew up in this heritage town. I did my graduation in Physics from Hooghly Mohsin College, situated in the district capital town, Chinsurah (which incidentally used to be a Dutch colony, there is still a Dutch cemetery and Church). I did my post graduation and Doctorate in Physics from Jadavpur University in Kolkata. While doing my PhD, I landed a job as an Assistant Professor of Physics at Suri vidyasagar College. I did my postdoctoral studies at Instituto Superior Tecnico in Lisbon. I secured the position through the prestigious FCT fellowship.
Once landing in Portugal in 2010, I bought my first camera which was a Sony Cybershot Point and Shoot. I traveled through Europe during my two years stay and used my point and shoot to document all my travel. This sparked the interest of Photography in me.
About My Work
In A Few Words
I am a Wildlife, Nature and Travel Photographer based in Hooghly, India. During my leisure, I like to travel all across my country. I visit various places and document the wildlife and natural beauty. I like to observe nature and record the behaviour of its critters and their interaction with their natural habitat and environment. Through my photography I like to convey the beauty of nature and its elegant critters. I sincerely believe that should we be able to appreciate the nature around us, we would be less prone to destroy the same.
